Come join us for the Chainless World Championships, held in Crested Butte, CO from the top of Kebler Pass to downtown Crested Butte. Though Crested Butte has held a chainless race in years past, this is only the second incarnation as a world championship race. Why? Why not? It's the best chainless race in the world and therefore deserves the title of Chainless World Championships.

This year's race will be held on Friday, June 24th with a mass LeMans start at 4:00P.M. from the top of Kebler Pass. For race updates and general shenanigans, be sure to check out our Facebook page.

We've posted some important information on this page here to answer questions you have about registration, transportation to the top of the race course, guidelines for participation, and post-race party info.

Don't Hose the Chainless!

Crested Butte's Chainless World Championship Bike Race from the top of Kebler Pass down 7 miles of dirt and pavement to the heart of town is the greatest way to kick off a summer of biking. But we can't take it for granted. A lot of organizations are involved in making the Chainless happen and they want to make sure that it's as safe as it can be. This year when you're gearing up for the big day, here a few things to keep in mind.

No Registration = No Race

We want everyone to register this year and sign our super-awesome legal waiver, which makes a lot of people happier with this event. If you don't register, you don't race. And if people gate-crash, we might not get a chance to race next year. Lame. Like Spike Lee says, “Do the right thing.”

Heck, we'll make it easy. You can register beforehand at the Night at the Museum Party at the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame on Thursday, June 23 from 6PM until it's over. You can also Register the morning of the Chainless, Friday, June 24 at the Expo on Elk. By registering you'll not only keep the Chainless going, you'll get stuff like free beer at the after-party, schwag from our sponsors, and a warm, fuzzy feeling. All for ten bucks. That's right. $10.

Wear a Helmet

Your dome is pretty important. So cover it up. You can wear a moto helmet, a full-face ski lid, a construction hard-hat, or a full-contact battle re-enactment beast. Just put one on and finish with it.

Cruisin' and Boozin'

The law considers drinking and biking as drinking and driving. That means if you get caught doing it, you could be in trouble. So be smart. Be discrete. An open container of beer is awfully easy to spot from far away, just like your friends can spot you from far away. But if you're in costume, that makes if harder for your friends to spot you. So dress up, and don't forget that costuming can extend to all sorts of accessories as well.

Only Professionals on this Closed Course

This year Kebler will be closed for the Chainless, which means no more worrying about cars coming up fast from behind. Ballin'! It also means that you'll need a catch a ride on the Chainless Race Party Bus and pimped out bike trailer. Sign up, sit back, sip a...soft drink.

Post-Race Party Time

If you race, we'll give you beer (as long as supplies last). Just make sure that when you register you keep your Chainless Racer ID so you can prove that you deserve a beer. 7 miles of dust can make you pretty thirsty. The after-party will take place at the corner or 1st and Elk. We'll be giving out more prizes this year in more categories than ever before, so stick around.
